Description

Hello,

I cannot invite someone to join an active conversation. When I click the button "Invite" and I selected the contact, nothing happens. If I select my server chat room conference ., it nothing happens either. If I take a new server chat room (eg chatgroup @ conference .), I have a new chat tab opens but is empty and when I can not do anything.

Also, when I try to join your chat room "gajim@…" I have the conversation that starts but with the following message: "Error remote-server-not-found"

The installation of the MUC protocol is necessary? If yes, can you tell me the procedure so that I installed on my Linux server?

Sorry for my english. Thank you in advance for your answers.

Best regards,

Sébastien

you use gmail as a server? If so they don't have a muc server, so Gajim try to find another one from the rooms you previously went. If you want to provide a muc server manually, try conference.jabber.org for example.

if you're not able to join our room, it's because conenction between gmail and gajim.org server failed ... I just tested it is currently working.

No I do not use Gmail as a Jabber server. It's just an email address. My Jabber server is installed on a Linux machine.

Can you get my problem by taking into account this information.

it seems your server cannot contact other servers, You must configure correctly your server. (DNS records, SRV records)

Okay. But can you explain the problem of inviting someone to join a conversation?

comment:6 Changed 7 years ago by asterix

to invite someone you need to join the room, and with your server you cannot. Try with another account on a working server, you'll see it works

comment:7 Changed 7 years ago by sebbastou

It does not work with any account. The problem can come from the MUC protocol?

comment:8 Changed 7 years ago by asterix

Have you tested with an account from another server? Like from jabber.org server?

comment:9 Changed 7 years ago by sebbastou

How do I connect to the server jabber.org? I have no account.

comment:10 Changed 7 years ago by sebbastou

ok I found!

comment:11 Changed 7 years ago by sebbastou

In fact, I just tested on the jabber.org server, and inviting someone to a conversation works correctly.

Can you tell me where is my problem on my server? MUC protocol not installed?

comment:12 Changed 7 years ago by sebbastou

My problem can come from a misconfiguration of the server? From a plugin or component not installed?

comment:13 Changed 7 years ago by asterix

I already answered here

comment:14 Changed 7 years ago by sebbastou

Okay, but I don't understand why it would DNS records or SRV records My server does not need connection with other servers. Everything works except those invitations.

your server NEEDS connection with other servers if you want to talk to ppl that are not on your server or if you want to join groupchats that are not on your server.

so for chat to groupchat conversion, you need a MUC component on your server, or you need to use an external one, in which case you need conenction with other servers

Perfect. That's what I understood from the beginning, but I was not sure.

Regarding installation MUC component I download and unzip on this site http://download.gna.org/mu-conference/ the package "mu-conference_0.8.tar.gz" but I can not install it. Can you help me please ?

I never installed this component. I use the one from ejabberd. So I cannot help you. Contact the developpers od mu-conf, or read the INSTALL or README file.
