Description

It would be nice to have a generic way to show notifications inside chatwindows.

We should have a look at HotWire?. They've done a nice python implementation (ported gedit code).

could you precise your ideas?

We once already discussed the issue that you often don't notice incoming filetransfers while you are chatting with a person. The notification could be shown inside the chatwindow, above the textview.

The notifications are enhanced hbox's so they can be placed everywhere. We could also use them to attach warnings/info to our roster like: "Connection lost."

We strongly need an area, just under the menu in the roster, that contains a notification zone, and buttons, like accounts/profiles, chatroom, disco, transports, etc. (and eye-candy, like gradients...)

I know it's hard from a UI designer point of view, because of the multi-accounting and the limitations of Gtk.

Most of the young people using (proprietary) IM today, have such an area in their (beloved) client, thus a client that hasn't got such an area is forcefully "old-school".

Besides, everything is hidden in the menus and under the right-clic, we need that the most obvious actions be obviously shown in the GUI.
