[i18n] Common msgid for several sources but with different context

Reported by: anonymous Owned by: asterix
Priority: low Milestone: 0.9
Component: None Version: svn
Severity: trivial Keywords:
Cc: OS:

Description

It is impossible to translate correctly following message:

#: ../src/common/helpers.py:87 ../src/vcard.py:249 ../src/vcard.py:251
msgid "Unknown"
msgstr ""

In Bulgarian (and many other languages) there are 3 genders. I should translate the above message asf:

Неизвестно (neutral) - for helpers.py (status message)
Неизвестен (masculine) - for vcard.py (client)
Неизвестна (feminine) - for vcard.py (OS)

Since Gajim is in a deep freeze :-P I suggest to leave it as it is and fix it after ther release. You might want to take a look at this GNOME bug, which is another story, but with the same outcome.

ok done. this will be in after 0.8 we cannot afford to break strings all over. apart from unkonwn any other strings to suffer from this?

devs we can now do

Q_ = i18n.Q_

and then s = Q_('?vcard:Unknown') .set_text(s)

Q_() removes the ?vcard: but gettext while parsing the file detects ?vcard:Unknown as a whole string.

transl is expected to either do

?vcard:Άγνωστη or just Άγνωστη

I made sure nothing fails

Thanks Yavor for your attention to detail
