XMPP Protocol handler for Windows / Command line usage

Reported by: mip@… Owned by: asterix
Priority: high Milestone:
Component: None Version:
Severity: major Keywords: xmpp protocol handler windows gajim.exe defect
Cc: OS: Windows

Description

The Windows installation of Gajim doesn't seem to come with a protocol handler for XMPP schemes.

Trying to call gajim.exe from the Windows command line with an xmpp: URI as an argument doesn't work as expected. Gajim just complains that an instance is already running and asks to start a new one.

This is mote than annoying, as it makes it impossible to make Gajim handle xmpp-links, as for example links to chatrooms from inside web pages.

under linux we do that with another application (gajim-remote) that communicates with Gajim running instance through DBus. But I don't think DBus is available under windows ...

There's a rough Windows port of DBus (winDBus), but I don't think it's the way to go for a Windows version of Gajim.

why not? There is no other way to communicate with a running gajim instance

are there python bindings for windows? It seems there is not in the package you talk about
