Rethinking history-manager

Reported by: anonymous Owned by: asterix

Description

If i open the History Manager via

Actions > Advanced > History Manager

it would be nice to copy content via Right-Mouse-Click or CTRL+C.

BTW: You can copy content out of conversations of a current buddy by open the history via active Chat window > actions. But this works only when your buddy is online (if you hide offline contacts).

Showing all offline contacts is not so good ...

thx

history manager is not designed to read conversations. It's more done to purge a litle bit the logs, and do some search in the whole database. We'll, one day, keep roster localy, so we can see users even when we are not connected. So you'll be able to view history this way.

but to search in conferences history we can't make : right-clic/history ... and they are situations where search in history of a conference and copy and past some old sentences is very useful.

  • keywords discussed added; copy paste history removed
  • version 0.11.1 deleted
  • summary changed from copy content from history manager to Rethinking history-manager

Users misunderstand again and again what history manager was designed for (inluding me):

We have to rethink history-manager. We can ether make it clear that it is not for history reading (remove from menu again, add description, ...) or extend it so that it can (ability to start history viewer, ...).

extend it is hard. it's definitely a separate program, it doesn't access to all gajim framwork (Contact class that is necessary to use history viewer)

but as Thomas said, it's the only way to access MUC history if you're not in the MUC ...

ROFL, users misunderstood. No, users have no other way to read&search the entire history! That's not really their fault.

Maybe a new history-viewer? Which could do searching chat logs, groupchat logs, copy&paste and such?
