Cannot see online contacts

I have a contact who I met recently, and I've added her to my buddy list. But she doesn't show up as online! If I log onto AIM Express she's there.

I've tried removing/adding her, purging Gajim, everything. I can IM her without a problem, and she isn't invisible, but she shows up as offline.

Any help would be appreciated.

I'm using Debian Testing, so the version may not be the newest. If this was a bug that was fixed in the newest version of Gajim I will be glad to update. (Currently using 0.11.1-1)

could you open information window and tell us what are the valuse of subscription and ask in the more expander at the bottom of the first tab?

Do you see other contacts from the same transport ?

When you connect and she is online, Do you see a presence coming from her in the XML console ?

And now that you mention it, a lot of my contacts aren't showing up. Here is a screenshot:

It seems that all "away" contacts are just showing up as offline, and I have no idea why.

First are you sure you can be connected twice in the same time to AIM ?

To open information window right click on a contact -> Information

Status is shown as offline, and the about is "User is not online.", but I can still send/recieve messages from her.

And yes, you can log into AIM in two places at one time, unlike MSN.

could you look at subscription and ask fields in information window ? at the bottom there is a "more" expander. those fields are there

that's good. So not the only thing that could show it's a Gajim bug is to see if you get a presence from those contacts. To do so, disconnect from your account, open XML console (actions -> advanced -> show XML console), enable it, then connect to your account. You'll see a lot of data printed in the console. do you see a presence from one of those offline contacts (something that begins with <presence from='aim_id@jid_of_transport' ...) ?

I IMed her and she IMed me once, too, in case you needed that information. The screen name in question is morningxoview, although it seems that all contacts who are away when I first log on are considered "offline" until they come back from away.

ok, indeed the only presence you get from the transport is an offline presence. So of course Gajim can't show this contact online. So it's a bug in the transport and not in Gajim. Report it there.

Sorry about the false alarm then.

Do you have any other servers with AIM/MSN you can recommend? Everytime I try another server it just doesn't seem to work, I haven't been able to find a better, reliable server.

ok the problem is identified : AOL changed their protocol. There is a patch is py-transports ML for the transport to fix that.

Does that I mean I need to patch something, or the owner of jaim.at needs to patch his server? I'm assuming the latter, but I may be wrong.
