Global Hotkey for message composition

Description

I would love to see the following two global hotkeys implemented:

(1) Open unread/last message

(2) For a small window which searches-as-you-type for a name on the contact list, opening a chat window upon enter.

An example of (2) is the miranda hotkey plugin (http://addons.miranda-im.org/files/screenshot/1-1-1006762164-hotkey.jpg)

so that open the window you have when you do open -> start chat ?

the problem is that it's account dependant, so when you press this window, on which account will gajim search the contact if you have several accounts ?

Search on all accounts. The issue with same names on multiple accounts, could be resolved by showing the account name in brackets.

E.g. searching for mike, it shows the following after having entered the 'mik'

+-------------------------------------------+ | +-------------------------------+ | | | mike [gmail.com] | [Chat] | | +-| mike [jabber.cc] |-+ | +---| mikelangelo [jabber.cc] |-----------+

+---------------------------+

Enter opens chat window, Shift-Enter history, Control-Enter file send dialog?

Ok, the formatting is not right, I should preview the next time. Imagine a list like

-- mike [gmail.com], mike [jabber.cc], mikelangelo [jabber.cc] --

appearing when you enter the first few characters of mike.

It should not be too difficult to write an external program utilizing your fabulous gajim-remote. I give it a try in a week (it might take a while since it will be my first steps in gtk).

Of course it would be nice to have it included in gajim, though.

why not ... but those are very hidden commands that nobody will know, and even if you know you'll mix them

Yes, you are right. I think Enter for chat window is the most important.

The other stuff could be resolved if it were possible to have the same right click context menu in this quick search as in the contact list. It would be nice to have status icons in the search list too.

--- Btw, on this way thank you for the great program. After 5 minute of using it I knew I am in love. The simplicity, features, and looks of your program are what I was looking for for a long time. After 10 minutes of using it I searched for a Donate button on your homepage.

Grml.. I should have looked more first, sorry.

Yeah, I'm thinking of a dialog with a textbox similar to 'Start Chat', and if possible making it available in gajim-remote so that there can be a global hotkey.

so itsn't this 'start chat' dialog enough ?

other possibility, while you are in the roster, begin to type a nick, and gtk will open a search entry and select the first row with this nick.

  • status changed from new to closed
  • resolution set to wontfix

I close as I think the start chat dialog does what you want. You'd like the same window but with a search on all accounts with [account] in it, and I think it's too close from the current one.
