applications combobox is broken

Description

preferences -> advanced: when i change to "autodetect", close preferences and reopen it, autodetect is selected. same for gnome and kde apps. no entry lines below any of them. when i select "xfce", close and reopen prefs, the combobox is blank, no lines below. when i select "custom", the combobox shows "custom". when i now close and reopen prefs, the combobox says "use xfce" and the entry lines are shown.
