Random disconnects during lack of activity

Reported by: spawn968@… Owned by: asterix
Priority: normal Milestone: 0.12
Component: None Version: 0.10
Severity: normal Keywords: disconnect
Cc: OS: All

Description

I, like most here I would imagine, leave gajim running whilst I'm out and about. I use both GTalk's server and jabber.ru, which just happens to have AIM and Yahoo transports. My problem is not the fact that it disconnects rather regularly (I'm curious, but assuming it has to do with the fact that it's on the opposite side of the world from me), but rather the fact that until I click on gajim and try and send a message, it gives me no notification that it's been disconnected. Transports stay up, and the jabber.ru still look connected. Now, I don't know XMPP from most other things, unfortunately, but is there some way it checks to make sure it still has contact with the server? Ironically, after contact is lost, it will try to connect for what seems like an eternity, yet disconnect (Setting presence to Offline) and then reconnecting connects in under a second. If you need more information, I'll be happy to provide it.

Unfortunately, I forgot to put the statistics of my system. I'm running

Ubuntu Dapper Drake (6.06) on an AMD64 system, and currently using gajim 0.10 (the repositories version), although I just downloaded 0.10.1 and will see if the bug persists

could you run gajim in a console to see if there are error messages?

if you check account properties, is "send keep-alive packets" option checked ?

Changed 3 years ago by spawn968@…

I'm actually kind of saddened I didn't think of running it in a console,

but it's running now and I'll post the log if and when it disconnects. Keep-alive's are checked in the account properties. Thanks for the quick response

Alright, gajim-short.log is a 2000 line tail of the debug messages from

gajim, including (most likely, at least) various bits of conversation. gajim.log is a 200 line tail, ditto. It seems to happen only after a long period of inactivity, followed by setting presence (usually from Away or Not Available to Available).

Can you check if this is fixed in 0.10.1 ?

Forget about above comment. Sending keepalive is the same as sending

message. Apparently keepalives cannot tell us that connection is up. They help pnly in some occasions. Is it possible that there is some lag in the gui and this is why you can't see that gajim went offline ? Can you see if this line:

 DEBUG: roster stop Plugging
 <common.xmpp.roster_nb.NonBlockingRoster instance at 0x2aaab578a200> out
 of <common.xmpp.client_nb.NonBlockingClient instance at 0x2aaaaeda1f38>

is printed before or after you click on gajim tray icon?

Sorry for the long time between responses, but I have to let the

connection reset by a process of checking and resetting the time. This time I left it open the entire time (no minimizing to tray), and right before going to bed, it changed the status. I did this a 1:04 AM, and the new log shows that it indeed doesn't show it's been disconnected until I change the status.
