Alert/forbid to run multiple Gajim instances

It would be nice if Gajim could alert (or forbid) to run more than one instance of Gajim. Right now if I by mistake click start icon twice - I get 2 Gajim clients, and they are disconnecting and connecting all the time.

So, my suggestion is that Gajim would alert "Sorry, Gajim is already running" or something like this. Running more than one Gajim instance is meanless and Gajim should handle this situation somehow.

Of course it still should be possible to run Gajim with different profile (-p option) without any alert.

What do you think?

well sounds nice. we can first see if we have a proc name by the name of python gajim.py or gajim.exe and then perhaps save a file in lock to do that. or we could not do that all :)

atm it's not high prio, please just do not click twice. I do not mind having this ticket closed as WORKS4ME. atm I reduce prio and rm milestone and I let Yann and Travis speak their mind about this ticket status.

as a side note, i think Gajim needs to focus on getting some more JEPs done during the next milestones. F.e. if we had XHTML-IM we could do Gajim 1.0 release right now

I'm in favor of fixing this, but I agree the priority can be bumped down.

A friend that was trying gajim for the first time wanted to restart did not comprehend that closing the roster with the X button minimized to the systray instead of closing the app (by default, I realize this can be changed in ACE). It was a while before he figured out what was going on, but if we implemented this with a dialog that pops up saying "You are already running this profile" he would have understood the problem right away. This user is far from "Aunt Tillie", so this might be a really helpful feature to add.

yes even me had this problem once and I opened a ticket about some problems I had with 2 trayicons :) [I don't have time to find the ticket now, but then it was damn funny] :D

If another instance of gajim is hidden why not just unhide it and pop it

up? My mother had this problem on windows where she has Gajim automatically launched on startup. I think the tray icon get hidden also (windows feature).
